Stephen has been involved in banking and finance for small and medium sized businesses for most of his 28 years in the industry, having been responsible nationally for risk management, international services and training as well as management of local business centres. He is a member of Lloyds Banking Group Commercial division’s executive board, responsible for external affairs for SMEs including accountability for policy, communications, government and business network relations and diversity and sustainable development for both Lloyds TSB and Bank of Scotland.
Stephen read Economics at University College London and has professional qualifications in banking and marketing. He is a director of the British Business Angels Association and since January 2004, he has chaired the British Bankers’ Association Small Firms Panel, leading the work of the Business Finance Taskforce in mentoring, appeals and lending codes.
He is an active trustee of PRIME Cymru, one of HRH the Prince of Wales charities which works to help people over 50 in Wales to become economically active, particularly by starting businesses. Having helped develop a £multi-million loan fund for PRIME in is early days over ten years ago, he became a trustee of PRIME Cymru in 2003 and chairman in 2008. PRIME have helped 1600 business start ups, 2,000 people into employment and 5,000 into volunteering
