Key issues

This year data show key issues for retail as including influencing consumer behaviour, promoting healthy lifestyles, waste management and supply chain management. 

Strategy and approach

Significant process and focus on environmental issues has been seen within stores, from developing new ’greener’ stores as well as looking at significant longer term investments like PV generation and doors on chiller units.

Stakeholder and supply chain engagement has increased in focus over the last few years, and is leading the way in terms of incorporating the outcomes into the decision making process within their companies.

While there is a high level of discussion at board level and among senior management, there is, with a few leading exceptions, less use of a formal process in considering sustainability skills and experience at board level.
