Black, Asian, Mixed Race and other ethnically diverse people

Business in the Community (BITC) believes capability not ethnicity should determine career success.

We are committed to empowering employers to tap into this economic potential by accelerating change for ethnically diverse employees. We work with our network of private and public sector partners to offer tailored practical advice and share new insights to drive long-term change. We are also calling on the government to mandate ethnicity pay gap reporting.

BITC launched the Race at Work Charter, an initiative designed to improve outcomes for Black, Asian, Mixed Race and other ethnically diverse people in the UK. The Charter builds on the work of the 2017 McGregor-Smith Review, Race in the workplace, which found people from these backgrounds were underemployed, underpromoted and under-represented at senior levels.

Business in the Community’s (BITC) Race at Work Charter is composed of seven calls to action for leaders and organisations across all sectors. Signing up means organisations taking practical steps to ensure workplaces are tackling barriers ethnic minority people face in recruitment and progression. In doing so they can ensure their organisations are representative of British society.
