About Get Ready!

Some people who have experienced homelessness or other challenges in their lives need extra support to prepare for them for the commitment of more intensive employment programmes like Ready for Work. So in October 2011 we launched Get Ready! to offer flexible workshops and drop-in sessions, giving businesses a way to work with this group.

Through the Get Ready! framework we have supported almost 700 people, with over 480 positive outcomes achieved by participants.

We continue to use this model to support people in Bristol (where the programme is delivered under the name Bridge the Gap).

What is Get Ready!?

Get Ready! is a flexible framework set up to build participants’ skills and confidence for employment. An innovative partnership between an agency in each delivery location, Business in the Community and business, Get Ready! offers companies practical opportunities to support some of the hardest to reach groups. The model provides a clear infrastructure for participants and appropriate risk management and support for business.

Participants attend a range of business-hosted and delivered workshops and workplace visits  as well as drop in sessions to help them to move closer to employment.

Business volunteers have the opportunity to develop their skills whilst supporting these events. For example, 78% of employee volunteers reported improved communication and relationship building skills.

What we have achieved

Through Get Ready! we have supported a wide range of people facing multiple, significant barriers to entering work, enabling many to move on to our flagship Ready for Work programme.

From 2011-2013:

  • 480 positive outcomes have been recorded for Get Ready! participants, including moving on to work, volunteering or training.

  • So far 77 people have found work following Get Ready!, with most jobs achieved once participants had completed both Get Ready! and the more structured Ready for Work programme.

  • The people supported faced a wide range of significant barriers to work, including experiences of rough sleeping (54%), unspent criminal convictions (23%) and having been unemployed for over 12 months (62%)

  • 97% of participants would recommend Get Ready! to others.
