Lead the agenda

For companies interested in supporting the employment for disadvantaged groups, there are a number of opportunities to develop partnerships both regionally and nationally. There are also opportunities to take on leadership positions to demonstrate and develop your company’s commitment to this agenda.

Leadership Opportunities

Our programme and campaigning activity is led by a Leadership Team of senior business people with a passion for supporting disadvantaged groups into employment.

Business should be part of the solution - not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it offers great business benefits.

- John Varley,
Business Action on Homelessness Leadership Team Chair

The Business Action on Homelessness Leadership Team was established in 1998 by a group of businesses committed to tackling the issue of homelessness through employment. The focus of this group has expanded over the years, as our understanding of homelessness has developed to recognise that people supported through the Ready for Work programme face multiple barriers to work.

This can include unspent convictions, time in statutory care, mental or physical health conditions and issues relating to substance or alcohol misuse – in addition to their experiences (or risk) of homelessness.

Engagement with the Leadership Team gives senior business leaders the opportunity to shape the campaign agenda alongside a close network of peers.  They provide strategic guidance to campaign and programme activity and are profiled as leading this agenda.

National Partnership with Ready for Work

The partnership packages are based on nationally coordinated operational engagement in Ready for Work with access to additional bespoke elements tailored to the needs of the specific partner.

  • Employee volunteering opportunities - delivering employability workshops, hosting Behind the Scenes days, buddying clients on work placements and supporting Ready for Work clubs.

  • Access to talented, motivated potential employees, with the opportunity to host work placements as well as access to Ready for Work graduates to fill job vacancies

The advantages of a National Partnership:

  • Strategic support to help embed support for disadvantaged groups into business processes.

  • National coordination and evaluation of activity with quarterly reporting

  • Communications support including: case studies, input into press releases, programme information and success data to inform partner-led communications activity and events

  • All screening, client preparation and risk management undertaken by Ready for Work

Regional Opportunities

If your company has a presence in only one region, or if you’re interested in targeting your activity in a specific location, there are opportunities to develop a local partnership. This can include membership of a local steering group and a locally agreed level of programme activity.

Ready for Work is currently active in the following locations:  Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Durham, Liverpool, London, Greater Manchester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Gateshead, Sheffield, Sunderland, Plymouth and Wolverhampton.   We also operate through sister organisations in Dublin and Scotland.

Contact Nicola Inge to discuss the type of partnership that will be right for your company.
