Work placements

Structured work placements provide invaluable experience for people facing barriers to work. By providing placements, businesses can make a massive difference to individuals' chances of employment by helping them build their CVs, develop key employability skills, improve self-confidence and gain essential references.

I needed my placement in order to get a job. I got a chance to prove myself and show how well I can do in the job. I would do it all over again.

55% of people who complete a work placement through Ready for Work are successful in gaining employment, making a long-term difference to their lives.

How you can get involved

You can provide two-week work placements in your company for Ready for Work participants.

Placements involve structured tasks with real work – not work shadowing.  You would work with your local Employment Programme Managers to plan the placements that would work best for your company and our clients.  Using our experience of working with businesses to provide quality placements to disadvantaged groups, we can guide you with tips and best practice examples.

During their placement, participants are supported by a trained buddy from your business to help them settle in and make the most of the placement. The buddy training helps employees understand some of the issues faced by the people that we work with, and prepares them to provide the necessary support during placements.

Your commitment

BITC provides wrap-around support to ensure that the placements are a success for both the business and the individual on placement. This includes:

  • Recruitment and screening of placement participants

  • Delivery of two day pre-employment training to participants

  • Brokerage of placements and liaison with placement providers

  • Delivery of buddy training to employee volunteers

  • Post-placement ‘Action Day’ for participants

  • Evaluation of placements with the host company
