Top tips from ACT Training:
Hire the right people to engage young people who have disengaged with mainstream education.
Keep communication between stakeholders open and consistent. ACT has been able to develop a programme with everyone’s interests and needs in mind.
Do not forget your business goals. Part of the success of ACT Schools is that it is intrinsically linked with ACT’s vision, mission and core values and strategy.
ACT Training’s Pre-Apprenticeship Programme is a spinoff from the company’s hugely successful Traineeship Programme. While the Traineeship Programme engages with young people who are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) ACT’s Pre-Apprenticeship Programme engages young people who are more able and closer to the job market, and fast tracks them into employment and onto an apprenticeship in as little as five weeks.
High university fees and a tough economic climate have really helped to position vocational training as a viable option to further and higher education. This, coupled with the fact that the Welsh Government are keen to develop higher level apprenticeship programmes and has recently announced an additional £5 million investment into the apprenticeship budget encouraging more employers to engage and recruit a younger workforce, has meant that there is real demand for high level youth Traineeships and Apprenticeships.
The Pre-Apprenticeship programme is exactly what the Welsh youth, government, employers and economy needs. Over the past few years, ACT has reported a surge in the amount of young people who are choosing apprenticeship programmes over college or university.
In the last year, ACT has supported 62 Pre-Apprenticeship learners.
What ACT Training's Managing Director said:
“ACT is passionate about making a positive difference to people’s lives by providing outstanding learning opportunities. Our work here is to raise the esteem and promote personal growth of thousands of learners every year.
"The Pre-Apprenticeship programme provides young, talented people with a solid and considered base on which to build their working life moving forward. The Pre-Apprenticeship learners leave ACT as employable, qualified and adaptable young people and it is something that we are constantly delighted by and work so hard to achieve.” - Andrew Cooksley, Managing Director, ACT Training
