“ GD Environmental recognises that investing in its people is a key part of the company’s growth strategy while supporting the community in which we operate. ”
In order to achieve a long-term ambition of diverting 100% of waste from landfill to either recycling or energy recovery, GD Environmental developed a waste reduction/recycling strategy which encompassed all aspects of their business and was underpinned by a range of responsible business initiatives.
This led to GD to achieving a 96% recycling rate with 100% of waste diverted from landfill to recycling or energy recovery. The company has also made investments in range of areas, including the company’s fleet of vehicles, to continue to improve its environmental impact.
Integral to the business priorities of reducing waste and minimising impact is GD Environmental's support for the work of Key Wales Tidy, donating time, resources and expertise to projects with communities and schools to educate, campaign and improve the quality of the local environment.
People are inherent to the success of the business, and GD Environmental have sought to create a culture which recognises hard work and helps employees feel engaged, encouraged and appreciated.

GD Environmental has also taken a broader approach to supporting those furthest from the workplace. Key successes have included developing a work-based programme with Gwent Prison Service to support offenders prior to release; and a Community Payback Initiative which provides community service placements. Four ex-offenders have gained employment at GD Environmental through the programme, reducing their risk of reoffending; and their Community Payback Initiative has enabled GD to widen its waste processing remit.
Recognised as one of Europe’s fastest growing businesses, the company has recently made an acquisition of a company in Llanelli.
