Winner - Aircelle, Safran Group
Aircelle established a Business Class partnership with Shuttleworth College in 2009. Working with the school they established key areas of priority. These included supporting the personal development of teachers; inspirational work experience placements; raising the aspirations of female students; STEM initiatives and curriculum development tools.
To address these Aircelle supported two teachers to attend Ashorne Hill Management College alongside members of their own Leadership Team. They have developed a two week Work Inspiration programme, involving 10 departments providing focused work experience for students and encouraging them to consider a future in their industry. Across the organisation there are 30 STEM ambassadors who have supported 18 schools including Shuttleworth College.
Aircelle were also a key partner, working with other businesses in their cluster, to establish an Aspiration Project for 24 underachieving Year 10 girls. Through breakfast clubs, coaching, careers advice and confidence building sessions the programme resulted in a significant improvement in the girls’ aspirations and achievement.
- 24 girls participating in the Aspiration Project were predicted an increase from 36% to 63% in English and from 52% to 71% in Maths
- Applications to take part in work experience at Aircelle have increased from 38 in 2008 to 87 in 2010
- Two staff members at Shuttleworth have attained Institute of Leadership & Management Level 5 with Aircelle’s support
- Over 2400 students from 18 schools, including Aircelle’s Business Class cluster have benefited from STEM activities
