As a hospitality business, Bluestone is built on customer engagement and satisfaction. A crucial part of delivering a top-quality guest experience is having highly trained, engaged, happy and healthy employees. With this in mind, and a commitment to support all employees, the Employee Wellness programme was kicked off by the Chief Executive and supported by senior leadership with a secured, ring-fenced budget.
At the core of the Employee Wellness programme is a commitment to create and manage a workplace that embraces health and wellbeing and gives all employees – regardless of the team they work in – the opportunities to thrive, both in their career and personal lives. The senior team made a series of commitments covering healthy lifestyles, nutrition, volunteering, mental health, exercise, work-life balance and workplace culture – all of which form the framework for the Wellness programme.
With such a wide-ranging and holistic approach to wellbeing at work, tracking engagement and measuring take-up (for example) was key. Bluestone’s Wellness programme is underpinned by a huge amount of employee survey data (including regular pulse surveys) and it regularly receives feedback from the Employee Consultation Group. This information comes together and is reported on through the company’s Flow system, putting live information at the fingertips of senior leaders and managers alike.
Bluestone’s Employee Wellness programme is incredibly focussed on the individual employee experience. It provides opportunities to find out more about personal diet plans, mindfulness sessions and much more. As a result of this ability to tailor the experience, one colleague discovered that he was at risk of heart attack. With support from Bluestone and experts he accessed through the programme, he lost 3 stone in weight – resulting in a healthier, happier colleague, father and employee.
The Bluestone Wellness programme incorporates everything that a wellbeing initiative should and has the added benefits of creating usable data for line managers and the business. There have been direct positive impacts for the business as a result and it is changing people’s lives on the ground.
Bluestone National Park Resorts is the deserving winner of the Wales & West Utilities Wellbeing at Work Award.
