The Education Partnership Award: Burges Salmon

Longlisted for a Business in the Community Responsible Business Award

Action and Impact
The UK law firm Burges Salmon has been working with secondary schools for many years, with mixed success. Now, a new partnership programme is a natural transition for the firm, focusing its efforts on one specific school where we can have a big impact. Its partnership with Fairfield High School in Bristol has gone from strength to strength and over the years the company has supported the school in many ways, engaging young people, teachers and parents.

For Fairfield, the partnership gives students a better idea of work options after school, as well as raising their aspirations and ambitions. Also, members of staff have learned from the business too.
For Burges Salmon, it gets to raise awareness of the opportunities available in the legal profession, find opportunities for its people to develop their skills through volunteering (31 staff got involved in 2017/18) and demonstrate a commitment to education and social mobility.

“The Business Class partnership has allowed us to create a sustainable relationship with an extraordinarily dynamic school which takes every opportunity to improve outcomes for its students and staff,” says Chris Seaton, a senior partner at Burges Salmon.
