Technology is changing industry drastically and traditional education is struggling to keep up. Young people are leaving education without the skills to hit the ground running in the digital industry.
That is the view of Agent, a brand strategy agency, which launched its Academy programme to tackle the perceived risk of recruiting based on potential rather than proven skills, something that is leaving young people behind, unemployed or in low paid jobs.
 
The core programme is an intensive 12-week course for 18-25 year olds that are not in education, are unemployed or underemployed ie in zero hours contract jobs. Everyone on the programme has a desire to kick start a career in the digital or creative industry and 95% of the Agent Academy team secures employment within weeks of completion. There are between 20 and 30 young people a year enrolled onto the programme. There is also a school and a university programme.
 
So far, six main programmes have been completed by 62 young people leading to 59 new full-time jobs being created in the industry. For the business, the culture created is fostering greater productivity (up year on year for the past three years) and less than 1% absenteeism.
