Longlisted for a Business in the Community Responsible Business Award 2018

Action and Impact
Recycling Lives is a business with a unique approach to success. It is a waste management and scrap metal recycling company but it also directly supports a number of charity programmes to create employment opportunities for those furthest from the job market.

Specifically, the company helps individuals with a history of offending, addiction, homelessness and wordlessness by giving them holistic support, training and work placements – all with a view to securing a job.

Reoffending comes with a big financial and social cost to the UK, as does homelessness which costs the UK £1 billion a year. Recycling Lives aims to provdie sustainable and meaningful employment so that people can secure and maintain stable tenancies, reduce their welfare dependency and enjoy improved mental and physical health.

For the business, it is able to develop strong partnerships with customers who often cite the Recycling Lives social programmes as a key factor in awarding contracts, knowing their waste stream will create meaningful jobs for marginalised groups.

So far, the company has helped 304 people prepare for the world of work, as well as creating 147 jobs and 304 work placements for those that need it the most.
