Azoomee's app allows children to watch, play, learn and interact with each other in a safe environment
Action and Impact
It is a question at the forefront of many parents with children of primary-school age: How do I let my kids engage with the digital world and keep them safe at the same time? According to the UK Safer Internet Centre, 70% of children have seen inappropriate images online. But there is no dedicated safe subscription entertainment service aimed keeping of school age safe in the UK.
Douglas and Estelle Lloyd set about solving this problem by creating an app that would allow children to watch, play, learn and interact with each other in a safe environment. The result is Azoomee, a digital media service for children between the ages 4 and 9, that offers them TV shows, games, an art studio and secure messaging in one safe place. It works on any mobile device and adds new games and videos every week, has an instant messaging function with parental controls and there are no adverts or in-app purchases to worry about.
The app even weaves through an online safety curriculum called Smart Safe Kind Online, a series that has won the support of charities, a BAFTA nomination and many awards.
