The Sieff Leaders Programme in partnership with M&S Award

In a world where future business success will be defined by delivering social value hand-in-hand with financial value, sustainable businesses are those that are challenging their existing ways of working, driving innovation and working in collaboration with other businesses and actors to deliver a sustainable business model.

M&S logoAn essential part of this is developing the next generation of responsible business leaders to drive long-term sustainability within the organisation.  The Sieff Leaders Programme in partnership with M&S supports businesses future leaders to further strengthen the long term sustainability of the organisation.

Selection process

Offered exclusively to our Responsible Business Award Winners 2015 who have already demonstrated how they are challenging the norm and bringing innovative solutions to the fore, the Sieff Leaders are:

  • Selected from a senior core commercial function within the organisation;

  • Recognised for their skills and ability to drive forward strategic change within their business.

The programme

The Sieff Leaders Programme offers half a dozen high impact, collaborative opportunities to help participants learn, share, challenge thinking and develop new approaches to building a sustainable business, all supported by personal leadership development coaching.

Tailored to the individual, the year’s engagement (October to July) will include the M&S workshop run by Sustainable Business Director Mike Barry (see below), 121 coaching by leadership development organisation Cirrus, and opportunities such as attending BITC’s Annual Leadership Network, assessing a Responsible Business Award category, joining a Prince’s Seeing is Believing, and getting an insight into BITC programmes including Business Class, Ready for Work and Access the Buyers.

The programme will cumulate with attendance at BITC’s Annual Responsible Business Gala on 11 July 2016.

The M&S Sieff Leaders Workshop

Hosted and run by Mike Barry, Sustainable Business Director, on 15 October, this interactive workshop explored what is possible in innovative sustainable business and how to ‘operationalise’ this into commercial functions of a business.

The 2015 Sieff Leaders met and discussed individual business challenges with a group of Directors including Director of Food Technology and Director of General Merchandise at M&S and Sustainability Director at Jaguar Land Rover.  Also there was an inspirational presentation about the power of frugal innovation and how to embed this approach into businesses.
