Will McDonald is Group Sustainability and Public Policy Director at Aviva plc, a role he job shares with Sam White.
Sam and Will run the Group Sustainability team, delivering Aviva’s ambitious sustainability plans. The climate pillar of those plans was published in March this year and set out how Aviva will become a net zero company by 2040. They also run the Public Policy function, leading engagement and campaigns with national and transnational governmental organisations.
We believe the job share is the most senior all-male job share in the UK. Will and Sam were winners in the Timewise 2018 Power part time list. Will is also a Trustee of the Fatherhood Institute, a charity that campaigns for a great dad for every child. Previously Will worked as a Special Adviser to Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP. Will also managed the public affairs team at the Commission for Racial Equality and worked for five years in parliament as a researcher. He has degrees from Leeds University and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
Will has been fortunate enough to play a very significant role in bringing up his children, largely down to the jobshare at Aviva. He sees the benefits of engaged dads at the family level and through academic research showing better outcomes for the mothers, the couple, the dad, the kids and society. Will would like to join Business in the Community (BITC) to deliver tangible changes in business life, and explore how men can be change agents for a more equal future.
