Peter Harrison, Group Chief Executive of Schroders plc, announced as the new Chair of leading business network, Business in the Community

Business in the Community (BITC), The Prince’s Responsible Business Network, has today announced that Peter Harrison, Group Chief Executive of Schroders plc, has been appointed as the new Chair of BITC. Peter, who takes over as Chair from Gavin Patterson, will officially take up the role on 1 January 2024.

Peter has been the Group Chief Executive of Schroders plc since April 2016. Before this, Peter was the Global Head of Investment and an executive Director.

As a charity dedicated to building a fairer and greener world, supported by HM The King for over 40 years, Peter’s appointment as Chair comes at an important time for BITC. With Peter’s support, alongside BITC’s Chief Executive, Mary Macleod, and the rest of the Board, BITC is working to increase its impact over the next 10 years by:

  • Engaging 10,000 more business leaders to help grow the impact of responsible business practices
  • Continuing its work across all nations and regions and increasing long-term support for 50 of the most disadvantaged communities across the UK

Working with employers that collectively employ 50% of the UK workforce (16.5 million people) to build even more inclusive workforces

Peter’s experience will be essential in supporting Mary Macleod and BITC to drive this work forward.

Peter Harrison, Group Chief Executive, Schroders plc and incoming Chair of BITC, said:

“I’m delighted to be appointed Chair of Business in the Community, the largest responsible business network with a mission I’m passionate about. The impact that businesses can have when they work together to address the inequalities faced by so many in the UK is a powerful lever for change. I’m looking forward to working with Mary, the BITC Board and the wider network of business leaders to continue the incredible work that has been done to date and create an even greater impact for those who need it most.”

Mary Macleod, Chief Executive, BITC, said:

“I am delighted that Peter is taking on the role of Chair of BITC, as we embark on a new year with fresh ambitions to transform even more lives and help communities thrive. Peter’s personal passion for helping to increase diversity and inclusion across financial institutions, alongside his strong business leadership, will play a crucial role in supporting our mission to reduce inequalities and make the UK a fairer and greener place to live and work.

“We’re indebted to Gavin for his support and guidance over the last three years. His leadership successfully navigated BITC through the challenges posed by the pandemic and the increasing cost of living. Gavin leaves behind a real legacy from his time as Chairman, and I wish him the very best for the future.”
