Pride of Place: Sheffield

Pride of Place: Sheffield

Our Pride of Place programme brings together businesses, civic leadership and local communities, creating innovative change in deprived cities across the UK. Since 2019, our Sheffield Pride of Place board, comprised of leaders from all sectors, has harnessed economic opportunity to collaboratively address some of the key challenges facing Sheffield and drive change.

Why Sheffield?

Sheffield is the second largest city in the Yorkshire and Humber region with a population of 550,00 and a £15.7 billion economy. The city’s rich industrial heritage gives it an international reputation for manufacturing and engineering, and it has a thriving digital, tech, creative, cultural and independent sector. It is officially the greenest city in the UK and has the largest theatre complex outside London and two world class universities. However, Sheffield is now a stratified city, with the many benefits of large urban developments in its centre often out of reach for many of its residents. By 2040 we aspire to be be a city that inspires – a place where connection and innovation shape an inclusive and sustainable future for all.
