Newport Place Programme Prospectus 2026

The Newport Place Programme Prospectus serves as a communication tool, outlining the Business in the Community (BITC) Newport Pride of Place programme’s shared vision, goals, structure, and impact. The Prospectus calls on businesses and the public sector to step forward and provide their time, talent, and treasure to help build a Newport where every resident can thrive.

About the Newport Place Programme Prospectus

The Newport Prospectus provides insight into the Newport Place programme, why the programme matters, what it has achieved since it was launched in 2022 as the first Pride of Place programme in Wales, aspirational outcomes for the programme by 2030, and how businesses can take part. The Prospectus aims to scale up community impact in Newport, strengthen business partnerships, support wider placemaking activities, drive skills and employment innovation in the city, secure long-term sustainability, and build business capacity in the area.

Headline outcomes by 2030

The Newport Place Objectives were developed in partnership with the local community, for the benefit of the local community. These include:

  • Ensuring everyone in Newport has food, a home, and essential support by reducing food poverty; supporting national ambitions to make homelessness rare, brief, and unrepeated; and working with government and housing providers to deliver new, high-quality, affordable homes.
  • Creating safe, welcoming, and vibrant places where people want to live, work, and spend time by creating safe spaces for young people to increase youth engagement and reduce anti-social behaviour, as well as positioning Newport as one of Wales’ most vibrant and welcoming cities.
  • Opening up quality education, skills, and careers for young people and those often left out by ensuring young people have regular and meaningful exposure to the world of work, as well as attracting and retaining young talent across key industries in Newport.
  • Building skills and experiences so that everyone who wants to work can access good jobs or start a business by reducing the proportion of long-term unemployed through skills development, employer incentives, and support programmes; as well as doubling the number of active SMEs and start-ups and improving 5-year survival rates.
