The Sheffield Pride of Place Prospectus details the shared vision of Business in the Community’s Sheffield Pride of Place Board for Sheffield. The Prospectus calls on government, investors, and employers to partner with Sheffield Pride of Place to champion Sheffield as the UK’s demonstrator for truly joined-up place-based infrastructure investment that supports everyone who lives and works in the city.

About the Sheffield Place Prospectus

The Sheffield Pride of Place Prospectus provides insight into the opportunities and challenges faced by Sheffield and its residents, Sheffield Pride of Place’s 2035 vision for Sheffield, and what success would look like in 2035, as well as background information on Sheffield Pride of Place. The vision outlined in the Prospectus is aimed to support Sheffield in achieving its City Goals:Ā 

  • A creative and entrepreneurial Sheffield
  • A green and resilient Sheffield
  • A Sheffield of thriving communities
  • A connected Sheffield
  • A caring and safe Sheffield
  • A Sheffield for all generations

Key outcomes by 2035

Through extensive consultation with local people, the Prospectus was made in Sheffield, for Sheffield. The key outcomes for 2035 are:

  • A Ā£7.6bn uplift in Gross Value Added (GVA) (from c. Ā£16bn in 2022), 6,500 new businesses, an additional Ā£2.2 billion per year to the UK economy, and a city that sets the standard for de-risking and delivering investment. Sheffield will be known as a city where businesses can invest, expand, and stay for the long-term.
  • At least 6,500 more SMEs, research and development investment tripled to Ā£1.1 billion, and a Ā£2.2 billion annual uplift in productivity. Sheffield will be a national leader in SME retention and growth, with a regulatory and support environment that enables businesses not just to start, but to thrive for the long-term.
  • Sheffield’s creative and cultural economy to double in size, with Sheffield celebrated as a leading UK city for creativity, pride, and community.
  • 30,000 more Sheffield residents will have higher-level skills, 33,000 new higher-value jobs will be created, and youth unemployment and NEET (not in education, employment, or training) rates will fall below national averages, ensuring every resident can access opportunity and prosperity.
  • Up to 36,000 new homes built, every neighbourhood sharing in prosperity, and Sheffield recognised as a national exemplar for place-based, community-led growth.
  • A modern, integrated mass transit system to connect every corner of the city, with improved inter-city connectivity also supporting business growth across Sheffield’s district centres.

About BITC’s Pride of Place programme

The BITC Pride of Place programme is a UK-wide initiative that aims to transform communities by fostering deep, long-term collaboration between businesses, public authorities, elected leaders, and community organisations. BITC works in specific geographic areas, bringing together local councils, businesses, and voluntary organisations to co-create solutions tailored to local needs. BITC’s Pride of Place programme currently works in 18 locations across the UK.
