Surj Deuer is a Senior Responsible Business Manager, with a passion for integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into the legal sector. As a member of the Responsible Business leadership team, Surj collaborates with diverse stakeholders to drive responsible business practice into everyday strategic and operational decision making.
In her role, Surj works with Mills & Reeve’s multi-disciplinary ESG group to develop and drive it’s ESG products and legal services offering. She enjoys talking to clients to understand how they are minimising the risks and embracing the opportunities to become more environmentally and socially sustainable. In addition, Surj leads the firm’s community and charitable impact strategy encompassing volunteering, pro bono, community partnerships, fundraising and it’s independent Charitable Trust. She is personally driven by how businesses can collaborate to drive long term positive impact in areas such as social mobility, workplace health and wellbeing, workplace inequalities and wider societal injustices.
Prior to joining the firm’s Responsible Business team, Surj’s career spans over 25 years in Marketing & Business Development across the professional services sector.
Outside of work, Surj enjoys supporting local initiatives including volunteering in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s A&E department, volunteering at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and being a fosterer for a gorgeous guide dog in training.
