Umar Hussain MBE became Director of Finance for South Wales Police in August 2007. He has financial experience in the public and private sector, including ten years’ experience with Gwent Police as Head of Finance, and three years with Lincolnshire Police as Director of Finance and Administration.
Umar has a BA Honours in Accounting and Finance and trained as an accountant in London. He is a fellow member of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
He provides strategic direction, control and advice on all financial matters within the force, is responsible for corporate finance, estates, facilities, fleet, commercial services, information and technology as well as transformational digital services.
Umar is a board member and previous Chair of the Ystadau Cymru (Public Sector Estates Wales), has been a governor and Chair of the Audit Committee of Cardiff Metropolitan University, is a member of the National Police Chief Constables Council Committee on Finance and Chair of the All-Wales Procurement Board.
He is heavily engaged in police collaboration and is regional police lead for finance, estates and procurement in Wales and currently leads on collaboration on enabling services with police, fire and ambulance services in Wales.
In 2003, he completed the Police Senior Command Course and in 2015, was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list and awarded an MBE. In 2017, Umar completed the Major Projects Leadership Academy with SAÏD Business School University of Oxford.
