Dr Maxine Mayhew is Managing Director of Natural Resources for Costain, the smart infrastructure solutions company. She is responsible for developing and delivering the group’s services across the energy, water and defence markets and delivery of the group’s consultancy capability. In addition, she leads the group wide decarbonisation strategy to drive a step change in how Costain deliver (achieving the net zero emissions target by 2035) but to ensure clients are offered low or no carbon solutions by 2023.

Maxine completed a PhD at Cranfield University and has held a variety of roles in the water and utilities sector. Maxine has focused on commercial leadership, strategy development and implementation, holding director roles that covered all aspects of the industry from operations and engineering, through to support services including health, safety, risk, security, procurement and marketing. Maxine was listed in the FT & Inclusive Boards Top 100 influential women in engineering list in 2019. She is an independent member of the Cranfield University Council and Senior Independent director for Low Carbon Contracts Company and the Electricity Settlements Company. Previous roles include Group Commercial Director at Northumbrian Water Group and non-executive director (NED) at Karbon Homes.

She is passionate about the natural environment and wildlife, and believes that with focus and determination we can protect and enhance our planet. She is delighted to be part of Business in the Community’s (BITC) Climate Action Leadership Team as change will only happen with proactive action and this group of leaders has the opportunity to drive real progress and lasting change in climate action.
