Opening Doors Forum: Making Apprenticeships More Inclusive

Thu, 17 July @ 14:00 – 15:00

This is an online event.
Audience
Open to both members and non-members of Business in the Community (BITC). This event would be of interest to employers seeking to support young people of diverse backgrounds into work.
Background
Businesses in BITC places consistently identify skill shortages as a primary hiring challenge. A 2021 government report showed that nearly half of UK businesses (48%) were recruiting for roles requiring hard data skills with a similar number (46%) struggling to recruit for these roles over the 2 previous years.
Apprenticeships play a key role in preparing people for the roles a business needs. In this session, United Utilities will speak about their impactful initiatives in Blackpool, highlighting apprenticeships as an essential component of their place work by focusing on recruiting individuals facing employment barriers.
About the event
The session will provide the chance to share challenges, learnings, and best practices on broadening access to apprenticeships, upskilling new employees, and ensuring they are accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
