Building a fairer and greener Cymru
Cymru mwy teg a mwy gwyrdd
Our work in Wales is led by our Wales Leadership Board who champion the responsible business agenda in Wales and work with us to improve social mobility and create a fairer and greener Wales.
Our vision is to create a Wales of cohesive communities, a Wales that is resilient, inclusive and equal and a Wales where all future generations can prosper. Together, we believe we can transform the way business connects with communities across Wales, forever.
Our values, projects and ways of working are naturally aligned with the core mandate of the Wellbeing of Future Generation Act and the intersecting principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
If you want your business to play an active role in achieving these goals, to lead in inspiring the nation of Wales, BITC will help you get there.

Why businesses work with us
A green and thriving Wales for all
Wales has a strong history of being a global leader in green initiatives.
From being one of the first countries in the world to have sustainability written into its legislation, to being named second best in the world for recycling; Wales sets the green example for the rest of the UK nations to follow
Across Wales we’re seeing an increasing demand for green jobs and green skills, but as the need for green skills increases the green skills gap is widening and were working with our members to ensure a Just Transition to net zero, where no one is left behind.
Funded by the Big Lottery Sustainable Steps programme, BITC is working with POBL Group and our members to support young people from a Black, Asian, Mixed Race or other ethnically diverse background, young disabled people and young women routes into green employment.

Supporting jobseekers across Wales
Wales has an untapped talent pool of candidates who encounter more barriers than most in the recruitment process, including refugees, women returning to the workforce, young people leaving care and many more people facing intersecting barriers, struggles with confidence and a lack of access to a professional network.
At BITC, we believe that all young people and jobseekers should have a clear pathway into work. Through BITC’s Opening Doors Campaign, we provide inclusive recruitment training to employers, creating inclusive workplaces where all people can thrive. Additionally, our Job Coaching programme helps break down barriers for jobseekers. We drive impact on this scale by working together to train experienced professionals to be job coaches and providing them with dynamic skills that they can then utilise back into their organisations.
Our Pride of Place programme in Wales
BITC Cymru is on a mission to help local communities across Wales take ownership of their future, and support them in tackling their most pressing challenges. In communities across the UK that have long endured hardship, BITC’s Pride of Place programme unites people from all walks of life around a vision for a better future, nurturing collaboration, sustained investment and self-belief to drive action so that millions can thrive in a place they call home. Pride of Place Place currently supports Newport and Rhondda Cynon Taf and we have ambitions to support more communities across Wales.
Newport
As Wales’ third largest city, Newport is home to many diverse and dynamic communities who contribute to a strong sense of local pride. However, Newport has faced significant socioeconomic challenges in recent decades, with good, fair jobs out of reach for many. Employment, income and housing deprivation are statistically high in the city. But there are clear opportunities for Newport to capitalise on the strength of its academic sector, and proximity to Bristol, Cardiff and the M4 corridor, to deliver lasting positive change for its near 150,000 residents. In Newport, we are working with businesses to tackle poverty, unlock new opportunities for skill development and to position Newport as a beacon of economic development while protecting it’s natural assets.

Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT)
RCT is known as a hard-working community that transported coal worldwide during the industrial revolution, but it has suffered greatly over the past few decades with job losses and no replacement for the coal industry. There are now generations of working age people who have not worked at all and in this economic climate face a bleak future. Since launching in 2025 we have brought together RCT’s largest private and public sector organisations, engaged community organisations and focussed on understanding the issues the area faces. Employment, income and housing deprivation are statistically high in the region. We are working to raise the aspirations of young people and create pathways into work, capacity build community organisations by providing them with skilled employee volunteers and support people living in poverty.
