Carole Parkes is Professor of Responsible Management at Winchester University Business School, a United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Champion School. She has both a business and academic background, previously working as a human resources professional in both the retail and health sectors.

Carole is a member the PRME Global Advisory Group, the recent Chair of the PRME Regional Chapter UK & Ireland and Chair of the UK Sustainability Literacy Test Group. In July 2017, at the 10th Anniversary PRME Global Forum UN Reception, Carole was presented with a PRME Pioneer Award for her leadership and commitment to the development of PRME, and her appointment as Special Advisor to the UN for the PRME initiative was announced.

Carole is an editor of publications for the Fighting Poverty as a Challenge for Management Education PRME Working Group, edited a PRME 10th Anniversary Special Issue of the International Journal of Management Education). Carole is also an Inaugural Fellow of the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC), on the editorial board for Greenleaf Publishing and an editor for Sage publications.

Carole was previously Director of Social Responsibility and Sustainability at Aston University, where she developed and led ethics, responsibility and sustainability, first in the Business School and the Aston MBA and then across all schools in the University. She was also invited to be the Christopher Chair in Business Ethics at Dominican University in Chicago and, a researcher in residence at the UN PRME in New York.

Mark has spent much of his professional career in the retail sector including senior Finance and Commercial roles with Marks and Spencer plc working in both their UK and overseas businesses.

He joined The Southern Co-operative in 2005 as Chief Financial Officer, and was promoted to become Chief Executive in October 2008.

The Southern Co-operative is an independent regional business owned by its customer and colleague members. It employs 4,500 people primarily in 250 trading outlets across the South of England. Turnover is £0.4bn per annum. 

Mark is a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and a member of the Institute of Directors. He was Chairman of The Portsmouth Cultural Trust from 2011-2017 and is a former Director of Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

Chair, Circular Economy Taskforce

Guy has overall responsibility for sustainability services, products and strategy, and for JLL’s corporate sustainability program. Previously, Guy led the EMEA region since June 2016, also serving as a member of JLL’s Global Executive Board. Prior to that, he was CEO of the UK business between 2013 and 2016, having originally joined as a senior leader of the Churston Heard business acquired by JLL in 2008.

Guy is Chair of the Circular Economy Taskforce at Business in the Community and Vice President at the British Property Federation.

An alumnus of the London Business School Senior Executive Programme, he is also an established media commentator on sustainability, the built and natural environment, and amateur triathlete in his spare time.

The Prince’s Responsible Business Ambassador – Wales

Richard graduated in geography from Durham University before qualifying as a chartered surveyor and developing his own property businesses in Poland and the UK. He joined Iceland in 2012, spending a year as a shelf-stacker and cashier in London before becoming an Iceland store manager and then moving to head office, where he became a director in 2015 and took up his current role in 2018.

Richard is a committed environmentalist who has led all Iceland’s recent sustainability initiatives including its pledge to eliminate plastic packaging from the Iceland own label range by 2023 and to remove palm oil as an ingredient from its own label food by the end of 2018. He is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a member of the DEFRA Council for Sustainable Business, and a regular panellist on BBC One’s Question Time. Outside family and business, his greatest passions are trail running, skiing, surfing and climbing.

Circular Economy Taskforce

Paco Hevia has been part of the Ferrovial Group of companies since 2001, working in the waste sector both in Spain and the UK, including Operations Director for the north Madrid region between 2006 and 2008.

He has worked in several positions within Ferrovial’s UK subsidiary Amey since 2008 where he has overseen the design and delivery of both Allerton Waste Recovery Park and Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park.

He is overseeing existing waste treatment. Paco is Managing Director at Amey Waste Treatment since October of 2018, MEng in chemical engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

He started his career in the waste sector 20 years ago, working for Ferrovial where he held several managerial positions in charge of waste treatment assets mainly around Madrid. He has worked for Amey in the UK since 2008 in business development, bidding and operations. He has participated in the design, building and commissioning of recycling plants and EfW facilities including Amey’s Allerton Waste Recovery Park and the gasification plant in Milton Keynes.

He oversees waste recycling and recovery operations in the UK, managing in excess of a million tonnes of household waste for Amey customers in North Yorskshire, Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, the Isle of Wight and Cambridgeshire where Amey has established a localised closed loop solution for plastic packaging with local manufacturers Charpak and the RECAP partnership.

He has worked in several positions within Ferrovial’s UK subsidiary Amey since 2008 where he has overseen the design and delivery of both Allerton Waste Recovery Park and Milton Keynes Waste Recovery Park.

Circular Economy Taskforce

An environmental engineer, Richard Kirkman is responsible for Veolia’s technology and innovation, material sales, combined heat and power, fleet and external affairs.

He is a member of the UK Plastics Pact Board, the Council for Sustainable Business, a Non-Executive Director of OPRL, and leads Veolia’s UK research and innovation activity.

An avid promoter of progressive resource management, Richard is proud to be a member of the Business in the Community’s (BITC) Circular Economy Taskforce, as he is driven to ensure this generation protects the interests of the next.

In his role, Richard supports Veolia’s growth ambitions overseeing the planning and construction of new infrastructure. Towards this, the company is committed to a significant investment over the next five years, and the administration of commodities, such as energy (electricity and heat) and materials (recyclables and compost).

His technology team is focused on thermal development, fuel and energy, food grade recycling, biological treatments and best-in-class sector innovation. Major initiatives include pioneering treatment facilities at Dagenham (plastics remanufacturing), Rainham (plastics sorting and St Helens (glass cullet supply).

Circular Economy Taskforce

Carol leads Arup’s global Advisory Services business and spearheads Arup’s circular economy work.  He was instrumental in developing Arup’s position paper to define the circular economy in the context of the built environment. He also coordinates Arup’s work as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s (EMF) knowledge partner for the built environment. The partnership enables the Foundation and Arup to work together to develop circular economy principles across cities, transport, energy and water.

Carol is involved in research projects with EMF to scope a circular economy vision for India and China and in the Circular Cities research project.

Carol is member of the Supervisory Board of Madaster Foundation, the world’s first platform for buildings as a material bank concept, as a non-executive board member.

Peter Simpson

Peter Simpson has been Chief Executive of Anglian Water Group since October 2013, and was previously MD of Anglian Water from January 2010, and Chief Operating Officer from 2004. He was Chairman of Water UK from April 2012 to October 2013, and is a Past President of the Institute of Water.

Peter is a member of Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group, run by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. This influences at a national, EU and global level to reduce carbon emissions, and to champion resource efficiency in water, energy and other natural resources.

He is also on the Board of Trustees of WaterAid.

Peter is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager, a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Environmentalist.  In 2016 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Society of the Environment and an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, as well as Companion of the Chartered Management Institute. He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Climate Action Leadership Team
North West Leadership Board

Chris Matthews is Head of Sustainability at United Utilities, the water company in north-west England.

His focus is to help the company deliver its objectives in a sustainable way through the development and implementation of environmental and social strategies. His role includes shaping how the company reports its responsible business commitments and developing relationships with stakeholders to further the company’s goals. He works with several groups to encourage responsible business behaviour. For example he is vice-chair of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities’ Natural Capital Board.

Chris is a longstanding supporter of Business in the Community’s (BITC) work and is a member of the North West Leadership Board, the Climate Action Leadership Team and the Water Taskforce, which he co-founded.

He saw an opportunity through BITC’s convening power to bring together companies from different sectors to tackle the water management challenges of too much water, too little and water of the right quality. To date, the Water Taskforce has leveraged more than £750,000 to deliver cross-sector projects on water that are forging new ways to embed water in the way businesses act. Chris is hopeful that by working with BITC, together shared solutions to shared problems can be found.

Richard Warneford

Water Taskforce

Richard Warneford is a water industry professional with more than 25 years of experience covering water and waste water operations, project management, engineering and commercial activity. As Waste Water Director he leads Northumbrian Water’s waste water operations including field customer service, networks, treatment works and sludge operations. Richard also leads the Company’s new development activity for both water and waste water services, also chairing the national Infrastructure Policy Group. In addition to the operationally focused work Richard also heads the employee relations framework.

Richard is a board member of UK Water Industry Research and is keen on partnering and collaborating with regulators and stakeholders alike. Richard is a chartered civil engineer and is a member of the northern advisory board of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Richard is a keen WaterAid supporter and visited Zambia with industry and WaterAid colleagues in 2013.
