Place Taskforce

Marcus is a partner in the Corporate Finance team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer specialising in helping a number of well-known UK corporates with all of their financing needs.

Marcus joined Freshfields in 1988 and has worked in the New York office (twice) and completed a four-month secondment with Salomon Brothers in their Legal Department and a five-month secondment to Heathrow Airport. He is known to have a healthy dose of humour and the ability to explain complex issues in layman’s terms.

Marcus is also the Chair of a social enterprise/charity, Gasworks Dock Partnership (GDP), which is seeking to regenerate a dock in the east end of London to make it an arts, education- and community-focused hub for the London Borough of Newham as well as a working dock and dry dock for the live/work boating community. It is through his work for GDP that he has become involved in Business in the Community (BITC), seeking to bring both his legal experience and his experiences gained from his work with GDP to bear on bigger projects such as the Place Taskforce.

Business in the Communty’s place programme

Business in the Community’s (BITC) Place Programme is about bringing everyone together in a place to act collaboratively. To act on long-term goals, based on a common agreement of the challenges, opportunities and solutions and drawing on the strengths of everyone in that community, whether they are a business, a community organisation or from the public sector.

Our mission

To facilitate meaningful connections between businesses, communities, and local councils to reset economic ambitions and collaborate on new, innovative solutions that will deliver long-term, transformative impact.
