Seven Steps for Futureproofing Business
Seven Steps for Futureproofing Business
Businesses are operating in a period of heightened uncertainty, with climate impacts, nature loss, resource pressures, geopolitical disruption, skills shortages and inequality affecting costs, supply chains, workforces, communities and investment decisions. This guide updates Business in the Community (BITC)’s Seven Steps for a Just Transition (November 2021) to help businesses build a practical strategy aligned with creating a future-ready economy. It is for organisations at different stages of maturity, from those starting out to those embedding transition planning across strategy, operations and value chains.
The guide explains how future-ready action can create value for businesses, people, places, value chains and the future. It also sets out seven practical steps: embed social, geopolitical and environmental risks and opportunities into strategy; use energy and resources more effectively; protect and restore nature; equip people with future-ready skills and good work; co-create transition plans with affected groups; invest in community resilience; and measure what matters transparently. Each step includes short, medium and long-term actions to help businesses move from ambition to delivery.
