Assurant: Creating a New Wellbeing Champions Network
Assurant has a strong commitment to the health and wellbeing of its colleagues and a small team tasked with managing and delivering on that commitment. The company wished to build its capacity within the business through establishing a Wellbeing Champions network.
How Business in the Community helped
Business in the Community’s (BITC) Wellbeing Advisory team delivered a workshop on ‘Maintaining and Enhancing Effective Wellbeing Networks’. The workshop was designed to ensure that the new network was effective. This information was followed by a discussion session with a small number of senior stakeholders and covered the eight building blocks of an effective employee network, focusing on the following issues: network aims and purpose, structure and governance and capacity and capability.
The outcome
Assurant’s Wellbeing Lead is now able to confidently manage a network of colleagues, increasing knowledge and awareness of Assurant’s Wellbeing strategy across different levels and functions of the business. The network also opened a new channel of communication within the business, helping to build a listening culture, which will feed into the continuous improvement of Assurant’s strategic approach to Wellbeing.
The Wellbeing Network has nearly 200 members from across nine countries in Europe. Equipped with the knowledge gained in BITC’s workshop and over 12 months of experience in running the network, the senior stakeholders presented a clear and compelling vision of the network and what it will bring to working life at Assurant. Assurant were delighted to receive external recognition for their wellbeing efforts by being certified as a Best Place to Work for Wellbeing in 2023.
“We would not be as far ahead as we are without the support of BITC and specifically our Wellbeing Advisory team.”

Testimonial
“We have worked very closely with BITC over the years to develop our Wellbeing strategy. The development of a Wellbeing Champions network was the natural next step for us. Our Wellbeing Advisory team provided guidance and support all the way through, from creating a business case to holding our first network meeting. The materials and supporting documents were easy to understand and the workshop provided our team the opportunity to discuss lots of different issues in a safe and supportive environment. This gave us the ideas and structure to create our own network with greater confidence. We would not be as far ahead as we are without the support of BITC and specifically our Wellbeing Advisory team.”
